Northamptonshire Care Record is a ‘gamechanger’ for Lakelands Hospice

The Northamptonshire Care Record is now available in Lakelands Hospice in Corby. It allows for better coordination of care, including ensuring that the Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment (ReSPECT) documents can be shared digitally with those delivering care across Northamptonshire.

Lakelands Hospice provides palliative and end of life care, free of charge, for people in Corby and the surrounding villages living with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, COPD and advanced heart failure. Corby has one of the highest rates of heart failure in England and has some areas that are among the county’s most socially deprived.

Cathy Finnerty, Head of Nursing at Lakelands Hospice was full of praise: “The Northamptonshire Care Record has been a gamechanger for us. We can now spend more time caring for the patients and their families and less time calling GP Surgeries or hospitals every time we need more information.”

Claire Mansfield, Macmillan Palliative and End of Life Care Transformational Leader at Integrated Care Northamptonshire explained: “Ensuring digital ReSPECT is accessible and available across Northamptonshire supports both patients and professionals. The ReSPECT process creates a personalised recommendation to guide appropriate care and treatment in an emergency situation, where someone is no longer able to make decisions or express their wishes. We are working hard to share information that will enhance joined up care.”

Matthew Hutton, Integrated Care Digital Lead for Northamptonshire shared: “Scaling our Shared Care Record means that people will get consistent care wherever they are in the county. They won’t have to reshare difficult and emotional information to every clinician they meet and saves time, better spent on care. There is much more to come from the Northamptonshire Care Record.”
