New Recovering Independence Bed Unit opening this winter

As part of the integration and delivery of health and social care services for people in our county, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) are launching a new residential rehabilitation centre in Turn Furlong, Northampton later this year.

This site will be opened as a pilot and will be operational from winter 2022 until the end of March 2023. During the pilot, our Integrated Care Board will assess how it is working to determine whether there is a longer-term need.

The new Recovering Independence Bed Unit will deliver vital short-term care for people who are not quite ready to return home after a hospital stay. The unit is being opened to free-up beds in our county’s acute hospitals. It will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The focus of the centre is rehabilitation and reablement. This will be provided by NHFT and WNC working in a new integrated way. The staff proving care includes senior nurses, staff nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical staff, and social care colleagues.

Both teams are looking forward to making a positive difference to people’s recovery by working together in this new and exciting way.
