New iCAN Get Up & Go class launching in Wellingborough

Get Up & Go is a county-wide falls prevention service  providing strength and balance exercise sessions for older adults.

As part of our iCAN programme, a series of these classes are happening at various locations across the county. This is part of iCAN’s aim to help people live and stay well in the community.

The iCAN Get Up & Go classes are for people who have a Rockwood Clinical Frailty Score of 5 or 6. This means that they are classed as mild to moderately frail.

The existing classes have been a great success, and a new class at the Wellingborough Hindu Centre is launching on Monday 11 September.  Northamptonshire Sport is accepting referrals for this class which was  developed with Learn2Be, part of Northamptonshire Adult Learning Service.

The groups that have been taking part in the classes for several weeks have benefited from being with others in a fun and social setting.  There have also been noticeable improvements in confidence, posture, sitting and standing from a chair, and overall better mobility.

New classes in Corby and Rusden are also being planned so watch this space!

Read about all of the iCAN Get Up & Go classes on the Northamptonshire Sport website and watch a short video about the classes.

Referral to the iCAN Get Up & Go class is required from  a health or care professional
