Spring Covid-19 vaccination programme launches to boost community protection
This week, the NHS in Northamptonshire launches its spring COVID-19 vaccination programme, targeting individuals whose immunity may have waned.
The spring vaccination offer aims to deliver enhanced protection to those considered most at risk from the COVID-19 virus. The eligible groups include adults aged 75 and over, residents in older adult care homes, and individuals aged six months and over, who have weakened immune systems.
All eligible people will be invited for a vaccination by the NHS* . Invitations will be sent to all qualifying individuals urging them to book their vaccination appointments. Vaccination bookings and checking eligibility status can be made on-line via the NHS National Booking Service or by telephoning 119.
Dr Nil Sanganee, Chief Medical Officer, Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board said: “We really want to emphasise that vaccinations save lives. If you’re eligible, getting the COVID‑19 vaccine is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself. These vaccines are routinely updated to target the latest variants, which is especially valuable for people who are clinically vulnerable. Even if you’ve been vaccinated before, the immunity you built up naturally fades over time and may not offer the same level of protection against the variants currently circulating.
“Staying up to date with the COVID‑19 vaccine - and any other routine NHS‑recommended vaccinations you’re eligible for - gives you the best possible defence against a range of viruses and diseases.
“Older people and those with weakened immune systems are more likely to become seriously unwell from COVID‑19, which is why we’re urging them, and all eligible groups, to get vaccinated as soon as they can. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, visit our website , or drop in to one of our walk‑in vaccination clinics to speak with our vaccination team.”
