NHS Cyber Security recognition for Northamptonshire and Leicestershire - keeping patients and services safe

Northamptonshire and Leicestershire NHS cyber security teams have been highly commended twice by NHS England at the Cyber Associates Network (CAN) Awards, recognising the people and partnerships working behind the scenes to keep patient information safe and health services running smoothly.

The awards celebrate a strong, shared approach to protecting NHS systems across the region. Instead of organisations working alone, teams now share knowledge, spot risks earlier and support each other when problems arise. This joined‑up way of working reduces the chance of cyber-attacks disrupting appointments, clinical systems or access to patient records.

One commendation recognised collaborative working, highlighting how NHS organisations, councils and partners are working together to improve digital safety across the whole system. By agreeing common ways of working and investing jointly in protective measures, services are better prepared to prevent problems and recover quickly if something goes wrong.

The second commendation praised leadership, with recognition for Ed Trimbee, whose work has helped build a strong culture of readiness and teamwork. His focus on preparation, learning from incidents and supporting staff has made a real difference to how safely digital systems are run day to day.

Ed TrimbeeChief Strategy Officer of LNR Integrated Care Board, Pete Burnett said:

“Keeping patient data safe is essential to safe, reliable care. This national recognition reflects the commitment of our teams and the strength of working together across organisations. It gives confidence that our services are better protected for the future.”

Chief Information Security Officer Ed Trimbee added:

“Cyber security is ultimately about people and patients. By working openly and supporting each other, we’re making sure clinicians can focus on care and patients can trust that their information is being looked after.”

For the public, these achievements mean greater confidence that NHS services remain available when needed, fewer disruptions caused by cyber incidents, and stronger protection of personal health information. The commendations underline a clear message: by working together and investing in good leadership, the NHS is making care safer in today’s digital world.
